Many of us live with endless desires and tasks only to find ourselves in complete despair wondering when our lists are checked off and finished. It is almost as though we enjoy the drama of adding yet more wants and needs into the mix until we feel completely at a loss.
When we feel like this it is best to stop tormenting ourselves and think about what is distracting us from enjoying what is in front of us in our lives. It can be like the child who is holding on to one toy only to cry and reach out wanting the toy their friend has.
How do we do this in practical terms? From a Yoga perspective, we can examine our thoughts when they arise. Our tendency to judge, criticise, compare, label and strategise. What thoughts can I replace these with to ensure I can have a better experience with not only myself but people around me?
I want to be clear however, that I am not talking about toxic positivity* - the idea that we should negate or disregard our feelings in any way and always be full of happiness and joy. How exhausting is that? My point here is to make wise choices based on the facts about our individual lives when we examine them openly and honestly.
"Today is a choice.
Today, choose grace over impatience, beauty over negativity, and presence over panic."
Join me on the next course coming up in September to find out more about these techniques and practices from Yoga.
In the meantime enjoy a relaxing summer break. I'm sure it's on the way here in the UK !
